NORFED and the Liberty Dollar

NORFED is the National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve Act.

As part of their effort, they have created the Liberty Dollar which is a silver backed currency. Liberty Dollars come in $1, $5, and $10 demoninations as well as a $10 silver piece. There are also $500 gold pieces and gold certificates.

These are 1:1 with US currency and can spent at any merchant that accepts them. As more merchants accept them, the more viable it will become, and the better chance we have at making a meaningful transition away from fiat currency.

Users of Liberty Dollars have reported high rates of success using Liberty Dollars at merchants. Similar to how credit cards once were, however, until a new form of payment reaches a critical mass, it is not universally accepted. The following is a list of Twin Cities area merchants who may accept it. Those with a "»»" in front of their name have committed to using it. Those without have accepted it, but may or may not on an individual basis. In general, when dealing with stores who haven't committed (listed or otherwise), the silver pieces are accepted more readily than the certificates:
